This update represents violence in Nigeria and related to Boko Haram in Cameroon, Chad, and Niger from December 3 to December 9, 2022.
The map depicts deaths by state. Borno State, in Nigeria's North East, is the epicenter of Boko Haram-related violence, which has also spilled into neighboring Adamawa and Yobe states, among others.

Below is a visualization and description of some of the most significant incidents of political violence in Nigeria from December 3 to December 9, 2022. This update also represents violence related to Boko Haram in Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. These incidents are included in the Nigeria Security Tracker.

 

 

  • December 3: Bandits abducted eighteen from a mosque in Funtua, Katsina. 
  • December 3: Soldiers killed twenty-four Boko Haram militants in Mafa, Borno. 
  • December 3: A clash between Boko Haram and Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA) resulted in the deaths of fifty-five militants in Bama, Borno. 
  • December 4: Kidnappers abducted four in Ado, Benue.  
  • December 5: Gunmen killed three police officers and three civilians in Sabon Birni, Sokoto. 
  • December 5: One police officer, two Ebubeagu operatives, and one gunman were killed during a clash in Abakaliki, Ebonyi. 
  • December 6: Kidnappers killed one and abducted eight in Bwari, Federal Capital Territory (FCT). 
  • December 6: Kidnappers abducted four in Biase, Cross River. 
  • December 6: Gunmen abducted four newborns from a hospital in Aguata, Anambra. 
  • December 6: Air strikes killed an estimated ten bandits each in Chikun, Igabi, and Birnin-Gwari Local Government Areas (LGAs) (est. at thirty total) in Kaduna. 
  • December 7: Bandits killed three in Billiri, Gombe. 
  • December 7: Soldiers killed nine bandits in Giwa, Kaduna.  
  • December 8: Bandits abducted seven in Talata-Mafara, Zamfara. 
  • December 8: Gunmen killed twelve in Isi-Uzo, Enugu. 
  • December 9: Gunmen killed one civilian in Mbaitoli LGA and one police officer in Owerri LGA in Imo. 
  • December 9: Kidnappers abducted six but killed one. Police officers killed one of the kidnappers in Ofu, Kogi. 
  • December 9: Bandits killed a monarch in Tsafe, Zamfara.
